Have you stopped one day to think about your character? Why do you act like you act and react like you react? What are your main fears and desires that drive most of your behavior? And are there people who noticed your fears and desires? And who tried to take advantage of you by manipulating them? What are the most experiences that shaped your personality, your identity, your self-image? Can we redesign our personalities and how if so? And what is so original about us if we can just improve everything in ourselves? The last answer is: Nothing, no one of us is exceptional or unique or perfect. We just can accept ourselves and live peacefully and happily, or we can quest an endless improvement with no hope of perfection… the choice is yours.
What if your body has exposed into a constant amount of pleasure or pain, for a short range, them medium range then long range… you are helpless and can’t control that force of pleasure or pain? What if that amount of pleasure or pain is not constant but it’s actually exceeding and exceeding with one goal; crack your control on your body for that force… make you scream from pleasure or pain? What amount of pain/pleasure, through how much time and by how much acceleration can you endure before you crack, scream and submit to that force… accept its control on your body and then become loyal to that force more than yourself? You know that you would crack sooner or later in such circumstances right? Your resistance has to fail at some point… the question is how far that resistance can last?
Obviously people are born with different capacities to endure pleasure/pain, some people crack and fail very early and other people seem to can last for eternity without cracking… their crack point are just very far. Nature is not fair of course, we are not born alike but with different capabilities… that’s why those who can naturally endure pleasure/pain, temptation/fear can easily be moral compared to other people. They are not better or special, their genetic coincidences have just served them better. People with low capacity of enduring pleasure and temptation or pain and fear shall never be exposed to overwhelming experiences like that because they would be abused/spoiled maybe for the end of their lives.
There is no actual difference between pain and pleasure, they seem to stimulate the nervous system in the same way; we just endure them to some point then we begin to crack, so the pleasure gets into our system and make us enjoy or the pain gets into our system and make us suffer… then we begin to lose control entirely, embrace the pain or the pleasure and become an addict to either pleasure or pain. Our bodies respond like that, we adapt on conditions no matter how extreme they could be… the thing is some of us can remain focused and resist longer than others.
There is a difference of course between natural pain/pleasure and artificial pain/pleasure. The natural pain/pleasure is absurd, it doesn’t mean anything, you just happen to be at that spacetime accidentally. Nature has no psychology; it just has the laws of physics… it doesn’t use pain to abuse us or pleasure to spoil us in order to control our behavior. That’s why we tend to accept the natural pain/pleasure in our system faster, we tend to enjoy natural pleasures and suffer from natural pains then feel hopeless and absurd faster.
While we know the intentions of someone torturing any of us to get information or crush the personality and make the victim its bitch… or someone manipulating other one by sex or drugs to get its money or will power. That’s why after enough time of systematic torturing and frightening or systematic pleasing and tempting we tend to surrender and accept that abuser/spoiler as the ultimate authority… human nature is weak and vulnerable, we do that to adapt and survive.
Some people have been manipulated by pain/pleasure long enough to go lunatic and tend to think that nature is also manipulating them with pain/pleasure, they think it they danced or singed or prayed or submitted to nature it would be merciful to them and give them a break… their experiences in life can never get the concept of the careless reckless nature. I mean imagine a weak vulnerable cute baby, a fresh born to some lunatic parents hungry to abuse (not necessarily sexually) and spoil that naive kid, to manipulate it all the time with rewards and punishments, to control something alive after being controlled and manipulated their whole lives… how would they shape its personality? And which god and goddess that kid supposed to embrace its whole life forward?!
We (living things not just humans) tend to get our self-identity or our self-image from nature and society, we move we play then how nature (environment) respond to our behavior and how society (people) respond to our behavior defines us to ourselves, reflects an image for ourselves. So if someone grew up in a community flattering it and spoiling its ego with praise all the time, it endures the flattering first then begin to crack and accept the nice lies… then become addicted for people giving compliments about anything. On the contrary is someone grew up in a community that reject and insult that person for whatever reasons, it endures it first then begin to accept the bad lies… then become addicted to people rejecting and insulting it.
Normal people can’t be good judges or good parents or good teachers or good authority anyhow, there are a lot of abused/abusive and spoiled/spoiling personalities in society… a fuckin lot in every human society on earth. And everyone tries all the time to spread its own experience in life like it’s fuckin unique somehow, they all think they are special and don’t have an idea of how we are all similar… not even just the humans are similar but all the living things.
So if one guy survived in an aggressive environment or a bad neighborhood or manipulative parents, so that person made a self-identity aggressive as a fighter or a survivor… it will tend to ruin any peaceful environment or neighborhood it goes in to shape it like how he/she grown up and probably will force its experience into the mouth of its children to be their experience too. Aggression & fear can actually survive generation after generation through stories, parental teachings and manipulation, no matter how peaceful and friendly the environment had become… irrelevant to them, fear and aggression will remain their identity and their personality.
It’s also important to indicate that pain/pleasure are not the only reflexes that manipulate and ruin our personalities by abusing and spoiling, there are a lot such things. Failure/success have the same effect; we normally endure failure & success or/ loss & gain for some time then we crack and begin to enjoy success or suffer from failure… then think we are losers or winners so we become addicted to more and more loss and failure or more and more gain and success. Our experiences shape our identities, then our identities shape our experiences… it can easily reach an infinite loop. Even if we thought we are winners we lose any of tolerance or acceptance for loss or failure, we become addicted and push our lives to extremes… and even if we failed we deny it’s a failure or a loss at all (living in denial).
Same thing with knowledge & ignorance, if someone is suffering from ignorance refusing to live with it and spending its life trying to investigate reality… then getting more knowledge expands its capacity for more knowledge, it become addicted to knowing and refuse to accept its ignorance. And even if it really failed in having such information, it refuses to believe so… it denies its ignorance and lives in denial. Also people with ignorance, who used to be ignorant most of their lives, they have adapted on it and became their identity… so they refuse to deny their life experience even for more knowledge. Control and submission too, control can spoil just like how submission can abuse and people get addicted to both all the time.
In fact, control and submission are actually the same thing; people who tend to control their environment or manipulate other people for selfish reasons are actually submitting to their internal desires and fears… while those who accept nature and adapt with society because they are failed to change them, are actually controlling their feels and desires. So there is nature outside the system and nature inside the system, what makes controlling nature outside better than controlling nature inside or the vice versa? Nothing actually, if either of them worked for you and made you adapt with reality it’s fine.
But the thing is those who can control their fears and desires to accept and adapt with nature and society, shall try to switch the control just for fun… to gain different kind of experience and enrich their lives. Also those who can control every aspect of their lives shall try to endure mess and other people’s control to endure their fears and desires… also different experience and stuff. People who used to live in ignorance shall try knowledge, and people who used to know about everything they wonder about shall try living in ignorance… just to touch the other side of their personalities.
The human culture embrace pleasure, winning, control and knowledge, and condemn pain, losing, submission and ignorance… but actually we don’t have to embrace one side and reject the other. The objective knowledge is good but personal experience is also useful… and the balance between them can benefit us even more. Both sides would boost our consciousness and give us autonomy… instead of being spoiled addicted characters and one sided minds who are incapable to endure absolutely anything.
