Common interest, common dangers and common challenges… these things exist for real of course. It’s not about their existence, it’s about realizing and accepting them, about taking responsibility for some action and personal sacrifices… that’s why denial is very much easier. The pretty thing about the common dangers and the common interest that the individual lose its loneliness and its desolation, suddenly there is a common cause above all causes… the survival of the species. But in the peace and prosper ages the common interest just fade out, the concept disappears… only an individual struggling against the whole society just to survive alone, that’s what remains.
There are people who can’t even care about their private interest, some others care but don’t have the power to benefit themselves. Others with some talents, can benefit themselves and have the ability to care for and help others who can’t help themselves. People raised by capitalism and the private profit incentive, generations after generations learned that greed is good and seeking for the private interest is more important than the common interest or the futuristic common interest (for the coming generations)… these notions are just a utopian shit to some people.
In the capitalist culture, people are divided into winners and losers. And the losers deserve their destiny because they are lazy or weak or sick… or just they have bad luck and the holy market decided to get rid of them. That’s their natural/capitalist holy fate, survival of the fittest, every man for himself, natural selection in action or it’s the financial selection (survival of the greediest). Helping the weak is just unholy (unnatural), god (nature) have decided that already… and no one can beat god (nature), it’s is a ruthless son of bitch.
No one can blame the weak because they can’t help themselves… and of course they can’t help others or even see their misery. No one can even blame the deluded people who think they are better because they were born in rich families or their roads were paved in a way. It’s a bad game the financial games, the hunger games… and it motivates the most selfish egoistic behavior in people. That’s why you don’t care about the losers in hell as long as you are having fun in heaven, religion is just a way to accept the natural tyranny.
Nice guys finish first, it’s actualy a struggle against the very core of natural selection that let us survive through generations… even realizing the concept of “common interest” is against the natural human instincts. And that’s why capitalism and the “profit incentive” works while socialism and the “common interest incentive” failed in motivating people… maybe the human society is just a jungle after all.
